The CO played AA horribly in my opinion. He should have reraised preflop and barring that he certainly should have bet the flop to find out where he was at.

Betting flop to find out where he's at is a horrible Kaplanism and not good poker. Betting flop for value is OK.
Overall CO played the hand alright. 4-betting preflop only gets calls from KK and maybe QQ/AK; calling pre lets trap the restealor. Paired board lessens the chance he is beat by a set/FH and getting it AI on the turn when the K hits against a shortstack is standard.
